Come and talk over your 'Choices in Childbirth'

Active Birth Taranaki Inc. is a not-for -profit group made up of lay members of our community passionate about owning your own birth — wherever that may be.

Being women who like nothing better than to "meet at the river" to talk over and laugh over the important issues of life, we are getting together to talk over your/our Choices in Childbirth. This will be an informal discussion in Carla's warm and welcoming home, with input from all of us with experiences to contribute.

Whether you are interested in exploring childbirth choices and claiming ownership of your birth, you're a support person or simply an interested party, we'd love your input too. Heck, come along just to be around positive, upbeat women, for confidence, laughs and companionship - we do!

This month we'll be focussing on using water for labour and/or birth, but this discussion can roam anywhere it takes us. We will also catch up on previous weeks topics/questions. We're happy to talk with you about

any concerns, questions, triumphs or stories you have!

This month - JULY

Focus: Managing Labour  - Using water for labour and/or birth and other options for labour.

When: 29th July, from 7.30pm

Where:  Carla Moore's house (112c Hine St, New Plymouth)- may need to park on the road and walk the driveway if you need to be guaranteed a speedy exit

Bring: Gold coin koha or something to share to nibble on

We anticipate these relaxed discussions will continue monthly throughout the year (replacing our current Choices In Childbirth classes until further notice) with four main topics being discussed on a revolving basis. Topics in later months will include Managing Labour (including Using Water in Labour, Acupressure), Dads' Talk, and Babywearing/Sleep Options.

Come along - we'd love to see and hear from you. All welcome!

Testimonials:

"...I think your general approach breaks down some of the myths & things many women believe have to be inevitable (hospital, intervention, etc) & gives women confidence & information about approaches they can take to childbirth BEFORE resorting to the 'norm'.

....... Thank you ladies for helping me stick by what I believed was right for me & my baby. Even though I didn’t end up birthing at home I got the medication-free birth which was the most important thing for me.

Thanks again to you all & keep up the good work. You bring balance to an otherwise 'medicalized' approach to childbirth & I was stoked to find people with the same instincts I had about childbirth to confirm I wasn’t 'weird', 'brave' or 'mad' to want a natural, homebirth. You provide a vital service & you're an awesome bunch of ladies.”

Active Birth Taranaki Inc. is working towards a community which is confident in women’s ability to birth naturally, where women & their birthing partners experience the power of positive childbirth.
